The law and order situation in Bangladesh, particularly in Dhaka and other major cities, appears to have deteriorated noticeably in recent months. Reports of mugging, robbery, phone snatching, and extortion have become increasingly common, leaving many citizens feeling unsafe in their daily lives.
Women, students, and office-goers are often among the most affected, especially during evening hours. Small business owners and transport workers also face pressure from local criminal groups, which disrupts normal economic activities.
Observers suggest that rising unemployment, increasing living costs, the spread of drugs, and weaknesses in law enforcement may be contributing to the problem. Delays in the judicial process and occasional political influence over investigations could further encourage criminal activities.
The consequences extend beyond public safety. Business operations are being affected, while investor confidence may decline if the situation persists.
To improve the situation, authorities should strengthen police patrols, ensure impartial law enforcement, and accelerate the trial process for serious crimes. Restoring public confidence remains essential for social stability and economic progress.
