A Farmer and his Sack of Wheat
One day a farmer was going to a mill with a sack of wheat on his horse. On the way, the sack fell down from the horse. The sack was very heavy. The farmer tried hard but could not lift it alone. He was in great trouble.
At that moment, a nobleman was passing by on horseback. The farmer knew him. He felt shy to ask such a rich man for help. But the nobleman stopped, got down from his horse and helped the farmer to lift the heavy sack onto the horse.
The farmer thanked him again and again. The nobleman smiled and said, “Do not thank me. If you really want to thank me, help those who are in need. That will be my real reward.”
The farmer promised to do so.
Moral: We should always help others in need.

একজন কৃষক ও তার গমের বস্তা
একদিন এক কৃষক তার ঘোড়ার পিঠে করে এক বস্তা গম নিয়ে কলুতে যাচ্ছিল। পথে ঘোড়া হোঁচট খেলে বস্তাটি মাটিতে পড়ে গেল। বস্তাটি খুব ভারী ছিল। কৃষক অনেক চেষ্টা করেও একা বস্তাটি তুলতে পারল না। সে খুব বিপদে পড়ল।
ঠিক সেই সময় একজন ধনী ও সম্ভ্রান্ত ভদ্রলোক ঘোড়ায় চড়ে সেখান দিয়ে যাচ্ছিলেন। কৃষক তাঁকে চিনতে পারল। এত বড় একজন মানুষের কাছে সাহায্য চাইতে তার লজ্জা লাগছিল।
কিন্তু ভদ্রলোক ঘোড়া থামিয়ে নেমে এলেন এবং কৃষককে সাহায্য করলেন। দু’জনে মিলে ভারী বস্তাটি ঘোড়ার পিঠে তুলে দিলেন।
কৃষক বারবার তাঁকে ধন্যবাদ জানাল। ভদ্রলোক হেসে বললেন, “আমাকে ধন্যবাদ দিয়ো না। তুমি যদি সত্যিই আমাকে ধন্যবাদ দিতে চাও, তাহলে যখনই কেউ বিপদে পড়বে, তাকে সাহায্য করো। এটাই হবে আমার প্রকৃত পুরস্কার।”
কৃষক তা করার প্রতিশ্রুতি দিল।
শিক্ষা: আমাদের উচিত সবসময় অসহায় ও বিপদগ্রস্ত মানুষকে সাহায্য করা।
